The automotive sector is facing major changes. The goal is clear: Electric drives are to increasingly replace combustion engines as this conserves resources and causes fewer local pollutants.
For many years, the Erwin Hymer Group has explored the possibilities of alternative drive technologies and sustainable mobility. The study "Dethleffs eHome" provides the next step: The first exclusively electronically powered motorhome has been manufactured based on an Iveco eDaily.
The latest generation of lithium-ion batteries allows for maximum ranges of motorhomes from 180 to 200 kilometres. But more is possible: A greater energy density is the development goal for new battery concepts. Ranges of 500 kilometres and more are no longer a pipe dream for motorhomes with lithium-sulphur and lithium-air or solid-state batteries.
In 2018, there are approximately 7,500 public charging stations in Germany. State-sponsored promotional programmes are to expand the charging infrastructure in Germany to at least 20,000 stations by 2020. The long-term goal of the European Union is a blanket supply coverage of Europe with at least 750,000 charging stations, 150,000 of these in Germany.
